The thread that may save America
Our common thread
There was a time in America, people acted and worked with a unified voice. We all had a common enemy in those who despised our freedoms and progressive ways of life.
We believed if a problem arose that affected the entire nation, we would work together to overcome that problem the American way.
In the 1800s, our country relied heavily on hemp for many uses. A rope was the primary use for hemp. Sails, clothes, books were all made from hemp, which was a display of unity among Americans.
Even the smallest farmers were encouraged to grow hemp in wartime to help our nation win the war.
Hemp has a long history of usage in the United States. Heck, our flag was originally made from hemp. I’m pretty sure most US flag material nowadays is made from synthetic fabric probably imported from China.
Prohibition and politics
Along the way, hemp became an enemy, not the unifier.
Hemp became considered “ poison” like its cousin cannabis plant that contained THC.
Numerous anti hemp and anti-marijuana legislation swept across the country in the early part of the 20th. Century.
And in 1930, The Federal Bureau of Narcotics was formed.
Harry J Anslinger was appointed director of the FBN, and Anslinger began a multi-decade worldwide war on all cannabis. The 1937 Marihuana Tax Act passage required anyone processing hemp or marijuana to pay a “special” operational tax.
This new law immediately killed the hemp industry in the United States because of his influence. Anslinger convinced other nations to follow suit and outlaw hemp and marijuana.
A complete plant
Hemp comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Almost every part of the hemp plant can be used.
CBD and many other health-beneficial cannabinoids found in the hemp plant offer us relief from aches and pains, mental disorders, sleep issues, skin conditions, and more.
Hemp stalks and hurd are processed from the stalks of the plant and are made into paper, concrete, fabric, insulation, hemp plastics, rope, yarn, thread. And many more applications.
Every month new and exciting reports emerge about the health benefits of whole-plant hemp extract.
Over 130 chemical compounds have been found in the hemp plant. Each with its unique properties to help a variety of health issues.
But the most significant driver in the re-emergence of hemp will be on an industrial scale- Industrial hemp will provide jobs and products for billions of people worldwide in just a few years.
Thanks to the US Farm Bill of 2018, this miracle plant has once again been liberated. It’s legal in all 50 states, and after a bump in hemp growth for CBD products in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
The hemp industry is gearing up for a massive switch in energy production and more sustainable US-made products that use hemp.
With all our political and cultural divisions, it looks like this wonderful plant just might be the thread that saves America.
